Gulistan is the capital of the Sirdaryo Region. “Gul” means flower in Uzbek. Gulistan is translated as “land of flowers.” It is the smallest district-level cities in Uzbekistan, and is just 120 kilometers south of Tashkent. Many of these photos were taken in and around my neighborhood in Gulistan, the first microregion. Others were taken at Gulistan State University, where I taught English for an academic year.
